Council reveals more details of proposed fees increase

Slough Borough Council has published a comprehensive list of all its fees and charges, including those which are proposed to increase as part of the budget for the coming year.

The list includes fees and charges for a whole range of council services, from registrars to community pitch hire.

The proposals will be discussed at a meeting of the Cabinet on Monday 24 February and will form part of the budget proposals tabled at a special meeting of the Full Council on 6 March where the budget will be set.

Councillor Dexter Smith, leader of the council, said: “Many of the current fees and charges are not changing at all and the vast majority, where there is an increase, are only going up by a small percentage, generally to keep pace with inflation.

“We know any changes to charges, in particular relating to life events such as marriages, births or deaths, are things which affect people’s everyday lives and can cause concern for people, so we have published the list in full to maintain complete transparency.

“This openness means residents are not caught off guard by any proposed changes.”

Some examples of charges which are not proposed to change are:
•    memorial renewals at Slough Crematorium
•    bulky waste collections
•    resident parking permits and visitor vouchers
•    access bar markings on the road
•    overdue charges for library books
•    stray dog collection, kennelling and fines.

Some examples of charges which are proposed to increase by one to five percent are:
•    hire fees for rooms in community centres
•    sports pitch hire
•    cremations including direct cremations
•    burials
•    dropped crossings.

Some examples of charges which are proposed to increase from between five and 10 percent are:
•    wedding and civil partnership registrar services
•    hire of the Elizabeth Room for wedding and civil partnership services.

More details can be found in the papers for the Cabinet meeting on 24 February: Agenda for Cabinet on Monday, 24th February, 2025, 6.30 pm.
